Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who has traveled to New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, met and held talks with Johann Wadephul, German Foreign Minister, on Wednesday morning on the sidelines of the session.The two sides discussed and exchanged views on Iran-Germany bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.The Iranian Foreign Minister, while outlining the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions regarding international developments, said that restoring confidence in the functioning of the United Nations requires all states to adhere to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and international law. He criticized the conduct of European countries, including Germany, for their appeasement in the face of US lawlessness and bullying.The Foreign Minister also, referring to the continuation of the Israeli regime’s occupation and warmongering in the West Asia region, described the military and political support provided by Germany and some other European countries as a major factor in the continuation of the regime’s crimes against countries in the region. He stressed the need to end such complicity in crimes, put an end to impunity, and hold the occupying regime accountable.The Foreign Minister, also explaining Iran’s responsible approach in resorting to diplomacy regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, stressed that no party can ignore Iran’s goodwill in the negotiations and the US and Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran in the midst of the talks, and portray Iran as the cause of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz.The Foreign Minister stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has conveyed to the US side the rational conditions and elements necessary for advancing diplomacy, emphasizing that restoring security to the region requires an end to US interventionist and aggressive actions against Iran.The two sides also discussed and exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as diplomatic and consular consultations between the two countries.
