The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the aggressive act by the terrorist US military against two oil tankers belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran off the coast of Jask and in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the attacks carried out against several points in the coastal areas overlooking the Strait of Hormuz. These acts took place in the late hours of Thursday night, May 7, and the early hours of Friday morning, May 8, 2026. These attacks were met with a powerful response and a "heavy slap" by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the aggressors failed to achieve their illegitimate objectives.   These aggressive and provocative actions not only constitute a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement dated April 8, 2026, but also represent a gross breach of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and constitute an act of aggression as defined by the UN General Assembly Resolution on the Definition of Aggression (Resolution 3314).   The continuation of aggressive actions, coupled with contradictory behavior, bellicose rhetoric, and disgraceful blame-shifting by senior US officials, indicates the escalating confusion of the US ruling establishment ,its profound inability to "understand the problem," and its failure to find a reasonable "solution" to extricate itself from the quagmire of its own making.   The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while emphasizing the capability of Iran's powerful armed forces to defend the country's territorial integrity, independence, and national sovereignty against any aggression and mischief, draws the attention of the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary-General personally to their responsibilities under the UN Charter to safeguard international peace and security. It warns of the dangerous consequences of the UN's indifference and leniency toward the outlawry and lawlessness of the governing body of the United States.   Now more than ever, this reality has become evident: linking regional security and stability to the interventionist presence of the US and other foreign actors is a mistake. The US military presence in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman has not only failed to contribute to regional stability and security but has itself become a cause of insecurity with far-reaching regional and global consequences.   The Islamic Republic of Iran, while emphasizing its commitment to the policy of good neighborliness and respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all regional countries, once again invites the governments of the region to adopt a responsible approach based on recent experiences to work toward establishing an endogenous security mechanism grounded in collective trust and free from the destructive interference of extra-regional actors.
