The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, strongly condemned the Zionist regime’s assault on the premises of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied Al-Quds and the destruction of the UN agency’s buildings.
Recalling the immunity of UN premises, property, and personnel under international documents, particularly the United Nations Privileges and Immunities Agreement, as well as the rules of international humanitarian law, Baqaei emphasized, “The attack on UNRWA’s headquarters and the occupation of the agency’s buildings constitute a criminal and unprecedented assault on the UN, which necessitates an effective and responsible response from the international community, particularly the UN.”
The spokesperson referred to the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, stating that the Zionist regime’s destruction of UNRWA’s headquarters aligns with the regime’s systematic policy of depriving the Palestinian people of minimal humanitarian services and highlighted the responsibility of the Zionist regime’s supporters, particularly the US, Britain, and Germany, in creating this situation.
Baqaei also noted, in reference to the continued violations and crimes of the Zionist regime in occupied Palestine and the West Asia region, that continued inaction in the face of such dangerous actions has not only further undermined the effectiveness and credibility of the UN but has also exposed international peace and stability to unprecedented threats.
