Iranian and South Korean FMs hold telephone conversation
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council has had a telephone conversation regarding Iran’s nuclear issue and the responsibility of the UN’s top body to refrain from any action that could further complicate the matter.
    Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, has had a telephone conversation regarding Iran’s nuclear issue and the responsibility of the UN’s top body to refrain from any action that could further complicate the matter. Iran’s foreign minister described the move by the European troika to reinstate the terminated Security Council sanctions as illegal and unjustified. Araghchi stressed that the responsibility for the consequences of abusing the JCPOA dispute resolution mechanism known “snapback” as to revive annulled UNSC resolutions lies with the initiators and supporters of such an action. The top South Korean diplomat expressed hope that, through consultations with other relevant sides, the ground would be prepared for the continuation of diplomacy. He also welcomed the expansion of bilateral relations with Iran and requested a meeting with his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
