The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, in response to reporters’ questions regarding some reports in Western media about the latest developments in Iran-US negotiations, said talks on setting the time and venue for the next round of negotiations are ongoing, and once finalized, they will be announced by Oman.
Touching on the topics of discussion, Baqaei clarified, “As has been repeatedly stated before, the only subjects of discussion between Iran and the US are the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions. No other topics have been raised or will be discussed in these negotiations.”
Emphasizing the priority of ending unjust sanctions, the spokesperson affirmed that the Iranian negotiating team will spare no effort in lifting the oppressive US sanctions, which are undoubtedly illegal and violate fundamental principles of international law and human rights.
He added that Iran considers the lifting of sanctions as the key criterion for assessing the seriousness of the US in these negotiations.
Baqaei completely dismissed rumors regarding Iran's flexibility on the issue of uranium enrichment, stating, “The continuation of uranium enrichment in Iran, as an integral part of the country's nuclear industry, is a fundamental principle for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Any proposal or initiative that contradicts this principle or paves the path to undermine this right is unacceptable.”
Commenting on claims about the possible dimensions of any agreement, the foreign ministry spokesperson, noted, “These claims are merely media speculation, made and published with various agendas and intentions, and none of them can be confirmed.”
