Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi who has traveled to Rome for the second round of indirect talks between Iran and the US, on Saturday morning met with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani.   Araghchi congratulated the Italian people on Easter and thanked the Italian foreign minister for the arrangements put in place in coordination with Oman in order to hold the negotiations in Rome, which have been held like the first round with the top Omani diplomat acting as mediator at a diplomatic place in the Italian capital. The Iranian foreign minister and his Italian counterpart then discussed the latest state of ties between Iran and Italy and international developments.   The Iranian foreign minister referred to Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and the Islamic Republic's long history of engagement with others on the nuclear issue and stressed the need for all sides to seize the current opportunity to reach a logical and reasonable agreement. Araghchi said such an agreement must respect the legitimate rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran and lift oppressive and illegal sanctions, while also dispelling any doubts about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program through voluntary confidence-building measures.   The Iranian foreign minister reiterated the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program. He said weapons of mass destruction are banned according to Iranian religious and national values and in line with the defense doctrine of the Islamic Republic. The Iranian foreign minister described the Israeli regime as the only obstacle to achieving a Middle East free of nuclear weapons. He said that while engaging in acts of genocide, lawbreaking, and aggression against regional countries, the Zionist regime seeks to promote Iranophobia and spread insecurity in the West Asia region. Araghchi noted that Europe and the international community ought to adopt a responsible position toward this issue regardless of imposed stereotypes.   Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, in turn, welcomed his Iranian counterpart and delegation. He described hosting these talks as highly valuable for Italy. Taiani highlighted the long history of relations between Iran and Italy and said his country is willing to strengthen bilateral ties with Iran. The top Italian diplomat also reaffirmed Italy’s resolve to assist in any way to ensure the success of the Iran-US talks
