Director General for Western Europe at the Iranian Foreign Ministry Majid Nili has reacted to the remarks of David Lamy, Foreign Secretary of Britain, at the recent NATO meeting in Brussels. Nili said, "We also agree with the statement made by the British foreign secretary that 'the world today is in a very dangerous period and is engaged in war', but, the question is: which actors play a key role in causing this situation?” Nili added that undoubtedly, the UK, with its long history of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries and illegal interventions in the West Asia region, particularly through arming and financing the only occupying and apartheid regime in the world, is at the top of the list of those responsible for creating insecurity and instability worldwide.
While condemning the repeated claims by the British foreign secretary regarding Iran's involvement in the Ukraine conflict, he advised Lamy to practice realism instead of shifting the blame for Europe’s problems onto others. Nili said Europe’s problems stem from the arrogant and expansionist approach of the UK and some of its allies to other countries. He further urged London to play a constructive and positive role in international developments.
Nili also described the claims by the top British diplomat regarding Iran's peaceful nuclear program and missile capabilities as baseless and interventionist, underlining that repeating unfounded claims against Iran will not lend credibility to those allegations.
