Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, met with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares Bueno, on the sidelines of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Cascais, Portugal. The two officials discussed issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments. During the meeting, Araghchi underscored Iran's principled approach of fostering interaction and cooperation to promote peace and understanding among nations and cultures. He highlighted the critical importance of adhering to the rule of law in international relations and respecting international norms and principles. Addressing the precarious situation in West Asia, Araghchi attributed the ongoing genocide and aggression of the Zionist regime against Lebanon and other regional states to the regime’s impunity. He described the comprehensive military and political support provided by the United States and certain European countries as complicity in war crimes and genocide. Araghchi called for more decisive global action to halt Israel’s atrocities and warmongering, emphasizing the need to prosecute and hold the leaders of the Zionist regime accountable. In reviewing recent developments in Iran-Europe relations, Araghchi criticized the confrontational and interventionist policies of some European states as unjustifiable and counterproductive. He warned that in response to the European resolution against Iran in the IAEA Board of Governors, Iran is activating several thousand advanced centrifuges. Araghchi reiterated the necessity of addressing international and regional issues with a realistic and law-based approach, emphasizing the need for constructive engagement to resolve shared challenges.
