The Spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baqaei, announced on Sunday that the 28th meeting of foreign ministers from the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states will be held next week in the northeastern Iranian holy city of Mashhad.
Baqaei said, “Ministers and senior officials from ECO member states, along with directors of regional specialized organizations and secretaries-general of several multilateral economic organizations, will attend the significant regional meeting.”
The meeting will be chaired by Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the spokesperson said.
Highlighting ECO's role in fostering economic cooperation among regional countries, Baqaei noted that the organization is one of the oldest regional economic cooperation frameworks among developing countries, aimed at promoting regional economic development.
Iran holds the rotating presidency of ECO in 2024.
Baqaei also mentioned that the meeting marks the second ministerial meeting of an international organization hosted by Iran in the past six months.
In June, Iran hosted the foreign ministers and senior officials of 33 member countries of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).
In conclusion, Baqaei emphasized the Iranian Foreign Ministry's commitment to organizing major international events in various provinces.
He stated that the initiative aims to acquaint participants with the economic and cultural potential of different regions in Iran.
