Heading a delegation in Tehran, Norway’s Special Representative for Yemen, Ms. Heidi Johansen, met with Ali Asghar Khaji, Senior Advisor to Iran’s Foreign Minister on Special Political Affairs. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the latest political, on-the-ground, and international developments concerning Yemen.  Both parties expressed deep concern over the escalation of the crisis, the expansion of regional conflicts, and the ongoing killing of innocent people in Gaza and Lebanon. They called for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine, Lebanon, and Yemen. Khaji highlighted the United States’ destructive interference in the region and its opposition to the finalization of the peace process in Yemen. He described this approach as an example of destabilizing and interventionist actions in the region. He further emphasized that since the beginning of the crisis, the Islamic Republic of Iran has advocated for a political solution by presenting a political initiative and reiterated that stability and security in Yemen can only be achieved through dialogue and a political resolution. Norway’s Special Representative for Yemen echoed this sentiment, stating that Norway agrees with the Islamic Republic of Iran that Yemen’s issue must be resolved through political dialogue among the Yemeni parties. She called for intensified international efforts to establish stability and peace in Yemen.
