The Senior Advisor to the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Geir Pedersen, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria, held a meeting within the framework of the 22nd round of international expert meetings of the Astana Process in Kazakhstan’s capital. Ali Asghar Khaji and Pedersen engaged in discussions on the latest developments regarding the political, operational, and humanitarian conditions in the region and Syria. Khaji strongly condemned the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the continued aggressions of the Zionist regime against Lebanon and Syria. He viewed the military assaults by the occupying regime on Syria as a serious threat to peace and stability in both Syria and the broader region. Khaji underscored the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to assist in establishing peace and stability in Syria. He emphasized the need for the United Nations and its relevant bodies, particularly the Security Council, to adopt a responsible and proactive stance to halt the crimes and violations of peace by the Zionist regime. Khaji called for the mobilization of all international resources to deliver humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza and Lebanon. Pedersen, for his part, expressed regret over the persistence and escalation of tensions in the region. He stressed the need for financial support to assist Syrian and Lebanese refugees and to advance political processes in Syria, including holding sessions of the Constitutional Committee.
