Following the unconventional and unacceptable move of the Afghan envoy to the Islamic Unity Conference and his disrespect to the national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the head of the Second South Asia Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the acting ambassador of Afghanistan to Tehran on Friday morning. In the meeting, the head of Second South Asia Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry  condemned the move which was in violation of diplomatic conventions and filed a strong protest with the Afghan side. He stressed that apart from the obvious need for a guest to respect the symbols of the host nation, paying respect to the national anthem of countries is an internationally recognized behavior, but the action of the Afghan envoy was at odds with  the high goals of participating in the Islamic Unity Conference. While underlining Afghanistan's special respect for the Islamic Republic of Iran, the acting Afghani ambassador said that the Afghan envoy's move was a personal act and does not reflect the opinion of his country in any way. He added that he will immediately convey the issue to Kabul. Earlier, the Afghan religious official who participated in the Islamic Unity Conference posted a video online in which he stressed his full respect for the Islamic Republic of Iran and also the significance of ties with Tehran. He also apologized for the misunderstanding and noted that he by no means intended to insult Iran.
