In response to journalists' questions regarding the Taiwan election results, Iran's Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nasser Kanaani stated: "The Islamic Republic of Iran considers respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of countries as the foundation of its foreign policy; and in this context, it has always declared its support for the One China policy."   The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added: "In this regard, the Islamic Republic of Iran once again declares its firm support for the right of the People's Republic of China to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the reunification of China based on the peaceful development of both sides of the Strait."
