Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, met and held talks with Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
Amirabdollahian expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar for his warm welcome. He highlighted that over the past six weeks, the two top diplomats have met several times, acknowledging the significant efforts of the Emir and the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar regarding Palestine and for laying the groundwork for a temporary humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
While welcoming the temporary ceasefire in Gaza, Iran's Foreign Minister warned that if the Israeli regime persists in war following this phase of the ceasefire, the situation in the region could escalate, triggering more widespread reactions.
Amirabdollahian remarked: "Israel cannot continue the war without the support of the United States. The reactions witnessed against the United States in the region over the past six weeks are a response from the resistance groups to America's support for the genocide in Palestine. These actions have nothing to do with Iran."
Emphasizing that Hamas is a liberation movement born from the context of the Palestinian nation, Iran's Foreign Minister added: "Hamas cannot be eradicated. Those involved should not assume that what they couldn't achieve during more than a month and a half of warfare can be attained through political means."
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in turn, expressed contentment with the meeting, highlighting the positive and constructive consultations and collaboration between Iran and Qatar. He specifically acknowledged Iran's pivotal role and valuable contributions towards achieving a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, expressing gratitude for Iran's efforts.
Stressing the progress made, he emphasized that the primary focus remains on securing the ceasefire. He underscored the shared goal of extending the temporary ceasefire and ensuring the complete cessation of violence and the protection of Palestinian lives, aiming to prevent a return to conflict.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed bilateral matters and joint cooperation aimed at bolstering regional security.
