Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Wednesday met with Indian Prime Minister’s Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri, appreciating New Delhi’s support for the full membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Amirabdollahian also stressed the importance of using the capacities of the SCO to expand bilateral economic cooperation.
He described the strategic project of Chabahar Port as important. The Iranian foreign minister further pointed to the rich and dignified history of friendly and joint cooperation between Iran and India, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran has no limits on expanding ties with India.
Amirabdollahian voiced hope that a new page will open in cooperation between the two sides in advancing the Chabahar Port project and the North-South Corridor.
He appreciated the successful holding of the SCO summit meeting chaired by the Indian prime minister and extended warm greetings from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to the Indian prime minister. Amirabdollahian said regular meetings and talks between the heads of state of Iran and India are important for advancing bilateral cooperation. Indian Prime Minister’s Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri for his part congratulated Iran on its accession to the SCO and said Tehran’s membership in the grouping will create new opportunities for expanding cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi.
He referred to his positive negotiations with his Iranian and Russian counterparts over the North-South Corridor project, saying the existing infrastructure and administrative issues can be resolved during three-way talks. Misri expressed hope that bilateral cooperation will continue and further expand.
