Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks and exchanged viewpoints on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
The Iranian foreign minister said he is pleased with the growing trend in the ties between the two countries since the 13th administration in Iran took office and welcomed further expansion and strengthening of relations in different fields with the UAE.
He also announced Tehran’s readiness to hold a supreme committee for mutual cooperation.
The top Iranian diplomat also briefed his Emirati counterpart on the latest developments of the talks for removal of sanctions.
During the meeting, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan touched on the significance of historical and cultural ties between his country and the Islamic Republic of Iran. He reiterated UAE's readiness to expand economic and trade cooperation with Iran, and to host the meeting of the council of businesspeople of the two countries and the participation of Iranian delegations in regional meetings including the conference on renewable energies in Abu Dhabi.
He also expressed hope that he will visit Iran in the near future.
The two sides also discussed the developments in Ukraine and political initiatives in the Persian Gulf region.
