I wish good luck for seasoned Iranian diplomat Dr. Mohsen Naziri Asl in his new post as the permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the UN mission in Vienna and our country’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
His appointment to the post of IAEA envoy falls on July 29, the anniversary of the agency’s establishment in 1957.
It is expected of the UN atomic body and its director general, as laid out in the IAEA charter, to promote use of nuclear energy for civilian purposes and non-diversion from the peaceful aims of nuclear energy without discrimination.
The advanced military nuclear program of the apartheid Israeli regime as well as its continued refusal to put its nuclear facilities under the safeguards agreement and to join the NPT pose a serious threat to international security and the non-proliferation regime.
It is expected of the IAEA to fulfill its responsibility as laid out in its charter.
