Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has held phone talks with his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah over the state of bilateral relations, regional and international, as well as the Islamic world developments. In this cordial conversation held Friday morning, Amir Abdollahian extended the Iranian president’s greetings to the Malaysian King and extended an invitation to him to visit Tehran. The foreign minister also congratulated Malaysia on its membership in the UN Human Rights Council and expressed hope that the country’s presence in the council will help develop human rights and deal with rights double standards. Outlining the foreign policy of the new Iranian government, the foreign minister emphasized the priority of Asian countries in this policy and Iran’s readiness to expand relations with Malaysia in all areas, including tourism, agriculture, technology, energy, science and academia. Amir Abdollahian also said Iran is prepared to finalize the Preferential Trade Agreement with Malaysia and voiced hope that the joint economic commission of the two countries will be formed in the near future. The Iranian foreign minister also described as important the signing and implementation of agreements on extradition of criminals and judicial assistance between the two countries and stressed the significance of the exchange of prisoners. Amir Abdollahian thanked the Malaysian government for supporting the oppressed people of Palestine. Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah conveyed the warm greetings of his country's top officials to the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, pointing to the warm and friendly relations between the two countries. Abdullah also said necessary capacities exist for the further development of relations in all fields, especially agriculture, tourism and technology as well as scientific and academic cooperation. The Malaysian foreign minister said he was aware of the difficult situation caused by sanctions placed on the Islamic Republic of Iran. Abdullah also said Iran is entitled to have nuclear technology and expressed hope that the outcome of next week's talks in Vienna will be successful.
