Iranian FM and Pakistani PM meet in Islamabad

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi who is visiting Islamabad for consultations with senior Pakistani officials met and held talks on Monday with Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif.

In the meeting that was also attended by Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan a wide range of issues concerning bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries in various political, security, economic, commercial, and cultural fields were discussed.

 

The prime minister of Pakistan also pointed to the strong determination of the high-ranking officials of both countries to continuously enhance bilateral relations and cooperation, as well as coordination at the multilateral level and within international organizations, underscoring the importance of identifying and using all available possibilities of Tehran and Islamabad to this end.

 

In the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister spoke about President Masoud Pezeshkian’s commitment to promoting comprehensive relations with neighboring countries and highlighted the special status of Pakistan in Iran’s foreign policy and Iran’s determination to expand ties with its Muslim neighbor.

 

Araghchi further referred to the shared opportunities and challenges facing Iran and Pakistan and underscored the importance of continued engagement between senior officials of the two countries, along with ongoing consultations at various levels, to seize opportunities, secure mutual interests, and address shared challenges.

 

He also warned of the Zionist regime’s ongoing massacre and genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as its repeated acts of aggression against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Lebanon and Syria. Araghchi went on to caution against the regime’s dangerous objectives to drag the region into war and jeopardize its overall stability and security.

 

The top Iranian diplomat appreciated the Pakistani government and people’s principled position and their support for and solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine.

 

He stressed the necessity for close consultation and coordination among influential Islamic countries, especially within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to adopt a unified and firm stance against the Zionist regime’s violations of international law.
