Iran slams US for imposing new sanctions

The Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the US for imposing new sanctions on a group of individuals and entities related to Irans energy oil and gas sectors as well as several figures involved in the peaceful nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

 

The Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, has strongly condemned the US for imposing new sanctions on a group of individuals and entities related to Iran's energy, oil, and gas sectors, as well as several figures involved in the peaceful nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

The spokesperson described the US's sanctioning policy as a clear indication of American policymakers' hostile approach toward the Iranian people and their disregard for the rule of law and human rights.

 

He further noted, “The structural reliance of US administrations on economic sanctions against developing countries, as a tool of intimidation and political pressure, violates fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.”

 

“In addition to undermining the rule of law and free trade regulations, these sanctions result in severe violations of basic human rights, especially the right to development, and in many cases constitute crimes against humanity in the targeted countries” he added.

 

Baqaei characterized the continued application of sanctions on various sectors of Iran's economy and trade as an unlawful and bullying act, openly contradicting America's claims of dialogue and negotiation. He asserted that this demonstrates a lack of goodwill and seriousness on the part of the US.

 

The spokesperson emphasized that unilateral sanctions against the Iranian people, as unlawful and arbitrary measures contrary to international law, carry international accountability for the US government, which must be held responsible for the grave human rights violations arising from such criminal acts
