Iranian Russian FMs meet in Tehran talk bilateral ties regional developments

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed a broad range of issues on the agenda of bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments, including the situation in occupied Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, the Caucasus, and Ukraine.
Araghchi and Lavrov underscored the significance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed between Iran and Russia as the most important manifestation of cooperation between the two nations.
They emphasized that this treaty provides a clear roadmap for strategic cooperation and the expansion of engagements in various political, economic, trade, tourism, scientific, academic, cultural, media, and people-to-people relations. They agreed on the need to pursue its ratification and implementation with utmost seriousness.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the increase in bilateral trade exchanges over the past year and stressed the need to fully utilize the vast untapped potential in both countries.
The Iranian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in line with mutual interests.
Araghchi elaborated on Iran’s principled positions regarding Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is closely monitoring developments in Syria and remains firmly committed to establishing lasting peace and stability, preserving Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and preventing foreign destructive interference and terrorist exploitation of the current situation, as well as countering Israeli occupation and aggression.
Regarding Lebanon, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s support for the new Lebanese government and emphasized that resistance against occupation, aggression, and the fight against colonialism and apartheid is a fundamental and legitimate right of self-defense. He reaffirmed that Iran, in accordance with international legal principles and ethical-humanitarian values, will continue supporting the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian and Lebanese people against occupation and aggression.
He also stated that the Islmaic Republic of Iran will not abandon its legitimate rights to peaceful nuclear energy under pressure or threats.
The Russian Foreign Minister, in turn, described his discussions with his Iranian counterpart as productive and constructive. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty and advancing multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
Lavrov highlighted the mutual benefits of Iran-Russia relations and reiterated Moscow’s commitment to pursuing key joint projects, including the Rasht-Astara railway and participation in the construction of power plants in Iran.
