Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, who is leading a delegation on a visit to Tehran, met on Sunday with Ali Asghar Khaji, the Senior Advisor to Iran’s Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the latest political and on-the-ground developments in Yemen, the intensification of airstrikes on Yemeni territory, the roadmap for a peace agreement, the exchange of war prisoners, the worsening humanitarian crisis, and other matters of mutual concern.

Khaji condemned the military aggression by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Zionist regime against Yemen’s civilians, infrastructure, and non-military regions, warning of the growing insecurity in the region.

He also pointed to the constructive approach of the Yemeni government and its readiness to sign a peace agreement, asserting that U.S. military and political interventions in Yemen have further complicated the situation in the Red Sea region.

The UN Special Envoy, referencing his visit to Sana’a last week, described the atmosphere of negotiations with Sana’a officials as positive.

Expressing concern over the worsening security situation in the region, Grundberg underscored the need to continue efforts and seize available opportunities to find a political solution and implement the peace agreement.
