Iranian and Brazilian FMs hold telephone conversation

.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira have held a telephone conversation during which they discussed and exchanged views on bilateral relations and international developments. Araghchi and Vieira underlined the necessity of close cooperation and coordination among developing countries in international forums in order to counter unilateralism and to support international law and the principles of the UN Charter. Araghchi spoke about the US military attack on Venezuela and the abduction of the country’s president and his wife, condemning the action as a gross violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental rules of international law. The top Iranian diplomat further warned about the dangerous consequences and repercussions of US bullying for the rule of law in international relations and stressed that such unilateral actions seriously undermine the foundations of an order based on international law and normalize the use of force. The Brazilian foreign minister for his part hailed  the principled position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard, describing the US move to kidnap the president of an independent country as a clear violation of the UN Charter. He also announced that the matter would be pursued in meetings of the UN Security Council, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
