Iran Japan discuss bilateral ties regional developments in high-level talks
The 33rd round of political consultations between Iran and Japan was held in Tehran with the participation of Majid Takht-Ravanchi the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs and his Japanese counterpart Hiroyuki Namazu.

During the meeting, bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues were discussed.
Takht-Ravanchi emphasized the importance and long-standing nature of the Iran-Japan consultation mechanism. He said holding regular talks is a valuable opportunity to review the state of bilateral ties, explore ways to expand ties, and identify new areas and capacities for cooperation.
He stressed Iran’s readiness to strengthen relations in all areas of mutual interest, including economic and trade, science and technology, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Namazu praised the commitment of high-level officials in both countries to maintaining and enhancing their historic and friendly ties. He noted Japanese companies’ interest in active engagement in Iran and emphasized the need to facilitate their operations.
He expressed hope that the opportunity provided by these meetings would be increasingly used to deepen bilateral relations and to leverage the active diplomacy of both countries in promoting security and sustainable development across various regions of the Asian continent.
The two sides also reviewed the latest developments in West and East Asia, as well as broader international issues.
Takht-Ravanchi condemned the ongoing genocide in Gaza and repeated Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
He stressed the legal and moral responsibility of all governments to stop the war crimes and genocide committed by the Zionist regime and to prevent the spread of insecurity in West Asia.
The Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs also outlined the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding international developments and the growing threats to the rule of law and multilateralism.
He also briefed his Japanese counterpart on the latest updates regarding Iran-US indirect negotiations and Iran’s efforts to counter the cruel and illegal sanctions imposed by the United States
