In this meeting, Iran’s foreign minister reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s commitment to ongoing consultations between the two nations during these sensitive times.
He highlighted the bitter memories Iraqis have of the spread of terrorism, commending the sacrifices made by Iraq’s government, people, and religious leadership in overcoming those challenges and defeating terrorism.
Araghchi warned that regional countries’ failure to heed efforts to combat terrorism in Syria would transform the country into a haven for terrorist groups, threatening the entire region.
He stressed the importance of all regional nations' support for Syria and Iraq in combating and defeating terrorist activities.
The Iranian foreign minister also spoke about progress in enhancing bilateral relations and reaffirmed President Pezeshkian’s determination to implement agreements between Iran and Iraq.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, in turn, sent his regards to Iran’s leader and president. He also thanked Araghchi for his visit to Baghdad and also expressed gratitude to the Iranian government and people for their support of stability and security of regional countries, particularly Iraq.
Sudani added that Iraqis will never forget Iran’s support and cooperation during the fight against terrorism in Iraq.
The Iraqi prime minister underscored the importance of continued consultation with Iranian brothers, particularly at this current juncture when the region has been the scene of different and very sensitive developments, especially in Syria. He underlined the necessity of consultation and consensus between the two countries. While pointing to the importance of the security and stability of Syria for Iraq and the entire region, Sudani emphasized Iraq's readiness to support and help the Syrian government and people overcome the current situation and fight terrorism.
The Iraqi prime minister further stressed Iraq’s strong determination to boost ties with Iran in all spheres, especially the strengthening of transit and transportation cooperation.
