The 50th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held on August 29, 30 in Yaoundé, the capital of the Republic of Cameroon.
The main theme of the meeting was "the development of transportation and communication infrastructures among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states.”
An Iranian delegation led by the Director General for International Peace and Security at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Asadollah Eshraq Jahromi, attended the event and delivered a speech on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Eshragh Jahormi started his speech by expressing deep concern and strongly condemning the Zionist regime’s aggression and barbaric crimes against the oppressed Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip during the past eleven months and especially the regime’s recent terrorist act of assassinating the political chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Martyr Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.
The Iranian diplomat called on the international community and the OIC to take a firm measure in order to immediately stop the regime’s actions which are clear examples of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, adding that the Zionist regime should be held to account for the crimes it has committed.
Meanwhile, the Iranian envoy underscored the necessity to focus on the root causes of insecurity and crisis in West Asia, stressing that the occupying Zionist regime is the main obstacle to stability and sustainable development in the Islamic world and the regional countries,
Eshragh Jahromi also noted that the regime’s destabilizing moves and policies are a fundamental obstacle to the cooperation between Muslim states and the establishment of regional economic convergence between OIC member states.
Furthermore in his speech, the senior diplomat elaborated on the new Iranian administrations’ views and policies on boosting convergence and stepping up regional cooperation and communication with the neighboring countries.
He pointed to Iran’s geopolitical position in regional and international corridors, including the huge capacity of Iran's commercial ports in the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, as well as its extensive rail network, and shed light on Iran’s high transit capacity to link up OIC member states.
Meanwhile, Eshragh Jahromi took a swipe at the economic embargoes, and most notably the unilateral coercive measures, that have been slapped on a number of developing countries contrary to the principles and rules of international law, adding they should be rejected by all countries. He bemoaned that sanctions disrupt economic stability and are an obstacle to development and access to resources and technology.
Concluding his remarks, the Iranian envoy emphasized on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s unwavering commitment to promote economic cooperation and collective progress of the member states and asserted Iran’s readiness to cooperate with other Islamic states to advance common principles and goals.
During the meeting, over a hundred resolutions in various political, economic, cultural, legal and financial issues were approved by the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, with two of them slamming the Zionist regime’s terrorist attacks on Iran’s diplomatic missions in Damascus, and reinforcing the multilateral cooperation among Muslim states in the organization’s geographical zone, proposed by Iran.
Meanwhile, also proposed by Iran, the foreign ministers’ meeting included in its final statement its firm support of the provisions of the document approved by the OIC Executive Committee’s Foreign Ministerial extraordinary meeting recently held in the Saudi city of Jeddah and called by Iran, including in blasting the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’ political bureau chief and former prime minister of Palestine.
