The 8th political consultative meeting between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was held in Tehran on Monday with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Minh Hang chairing the event.

Various issues pertaining to the bilateral ties in political, economic, cultural, tourism, and scientific fields, as well as regional and international issues were discussed during the meeting, which was held after an eight-year hiatus.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister said Iran and Vietnam, as two players in East and West Asia, have high potentials and capacities to step up their cooperation, especially in the economic field.

Bagheri also said, “Due to Iran’s progress in technology, we can boost our cooperation with Vietnam in this area.”

The Iranian diplomat also referred to the recent visit by the Vietnamese parliament speaker to Tehran and noted that the two countries can develop relations in various fields through direct contacts and exchange of views between the officials.

Meanwhile, Bagheri shed light on Iran’s stance and views on various regional and international issues of mutual interest. He stressed that the occupying Israeli regime’s crimes in Palestine should stop.

The deputy foreign minister stated, “Iran and Vietnam, and all governments and nations that stick to human values, should make their best to stop the ongoing genocide that is being perpetrated with the US support.”

“It is not clear how long those who claim to be advocates of human rights will remain silent about the crimes being committed in Palestine, the latest of which is the death of children due to hunger,” he added.

For her part, the Vietnamese deputy foreign minister thanked Iran for the plans scheduled during her visit to Iran. She said her visit to Tehran is aimed at talking to the officials in Iran, as a major and influential country in West Asia, as well as discussing ways to promote bilateral ties.

She further said, “Taking into account the significant potentials of the two countries’ markets, we are ready to remove the existing hurdles and problems in order to step up and develop the bilateral ties, especially in the economic and commercial fields.”

Nguyen Minh Hang welcomed her Iranian counterpart’s proposal to hold a new round of the Joint Economic Commission in the coming months and exchange high-ranking political delegations. She said Vietnam is ready to increase its cooperation with Iran in various international arenas.
