Iran FM to Azerbaijan president aide: Tehran determined to expand ties with Baku in all fields

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev's special aide Khalaf Khalafov met on Wednesday and exchanged views over a range of issues

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev's special aide Khalaf Khalafov met on Wednesday and exchanged views over a range of issues.                                   

 

In the meeting, Amirabdollahian pointed to his recent talks with Azerbaijan's president, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to expand relations in all areas with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

He also called for balancing the different aspects of bilateral ties between Tehran and Baku.

 

Amirabdollahian then referred to the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over the region of Karabakh and stressed the necessity of starting a new chapter in regional cooperation for the sake of peace and about economic development in the Caucasus.

 

"ٌWe believe that from now on, in this region, the language of peace and security should replace that of tension and conflict," he added.

 

The special aide to Azerbaijan's president for his part described the recent meeting between Amirabdollahian and Aliyev as positive and constructive.

 

Khalavov spoke about the positive developments in bilateral ties between the two countries, describing the prospect of ties as promising.

 

Khalafov underlined the need to begin a new and progressing chapter in bilateral relations in all fields.

 

He then outlined the recent developments in Karabakh and the policies of the government of Azerbaijan to support the rights of Armenians and civilians.

 

Khalafov said the Azeri government's priority is to guarantee the freedom and rights of Karabakh's Armenians and supply their needs.
