The Russian president Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, who has traveled to Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials, met on Monday with Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.   During the meeting, Araghchi spoke about the very strong bilateral relations and the growing cooperation between the two countries in bilateral, regional, and international arenas. He also appreciated Russia’s firm and principled positions at the UN Security Council in opposing the misuse of the JCPOA dispute resolution mechanism, known as Snapback, to reinstate previously rescinded Security Council resolutions concerning Iran’s nuclear program.   Lavrentiev for his part referred to the strategic partnership between Iran and Russia, underlining the importance of continuous consultations between officials of the two countries on regional and international issues.   The two sides also underscored their shared stance on regional developments, including the necessity of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, opposing any violation of its sovereignty, and preventing Syria from becoming a breeding ground for terrorism.
