Iranian FM meets with members of Russia’s State Duma

During the meeting, which was hosted by the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma, Leonid Slutsky, the two sides exchanged views regarding Iran-Russia bilateral relations and the perspectives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation on current trends in international relations.

 

The Iranian foreign minister hailed the meeting at the State Duma of the Russian Federation as a valuable opportunity to exchange views on ways to expand Iran-Russia relations and on the role of the parliaments of the two countries in facilitating bilateral relations.

 

Referring to the ongoing contacts between various parliamentary committees of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, or parliament, and the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Araghchi expressed hope that parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries would expand in parallel with the development of cooperation in other fields.

 

The foreign minister characterized Iran-Russia relations, which are based on a strategic partnership between the two countries, as serving the mutual interests of the two nations and as reinforcing regional and international peace and security.

 

He emphasized the shared determination of the leaders of the two countries to further strengthen cooperation in all areas.

 

Citing the intensification of aggressive US unilateralism and its growing disregard for international law and its replacement with an order based on force and coercive power, the foreign minister underscored the importance of cooperation among independent countries, including Iran and Russia, to strengthen multilateralism and safeguard the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

 

He stressed that Iran and Russia will resolutely continue their cooperation within the framework of international organizations and regional institutions, including BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Eurasian Economic Union.

 

The Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma also described the meeting as a suitable opportunity for bringing viewpoints closer together and for greater coordination between the two countries on bilateral and international issues.

 

Referring to the shared views and positions of Iran and Russia on many regional and international matters, he emphasized the necessity of utilizing all available capacities to expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, transport, transit, energy, tourism, and industry, making use of the Comprehensive Iran-Russia Strategic Partnership Treaty.

 

During the meeting, members of the State Duma presented their views and perspectives regarding bilateral relations and Iran-Russia cooperation on regional and international issues.

 

Hassan Ghashghavi, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, who accompanied the Iranian foreign minister on this visit, also delivered remarks outlining the plans of the Islamic Consultative Assembly to help strengthen and expand Iran-Russia ties and cooperation.
